Adult Health Ministry
The Adult Health Ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church was the vision of Wreather Detry-Osorio. Convinced that a health unit could provide a valuable service to the church body Mrs. Detry-Osorio consulted Pastor, J. N. Lightfoot. With his blessings, the Adult Health Ministry was founded in October 1957 by the late Ida Cowan, then president of the Mission Department. Twelve (12) people attended the first meeting. The group chose Mrs. Wreather Detry-Osorio as it's first President. Members were required to be Christians and attended basic first aid training. In 1957, Mrs. Detry-Osorio organized a Young Adult Unit with ten (10) members. Daisy Wilson was the group's first President.
In 1979, the ministry, consisting of twenty-three (23) members and two honorary members by now, merged into one Adult Unit. The requirements were expanded to include solid Biblical training, first aid training, and CPR training. Members are qualified to give emergency first aid during the activities at church or in the community.
The Adult Health Ministry welcomes new members. It meets Tuesday after the first Sunday at 7:00 PM in the lower level of the church.
Youth Health Ministry
Recognizing young people's desire to contribute to the body of Christ through a health ministry, Shiloh Baptist Church launched it's Youth Health Ministry on September 23, 1997. The Youth Health Ministry was organized by Mary L. Gardner, President of the Adult Health Ministry under the leadership of Pastor, Walstone E. Francis. Beginning with eight members, the group chose Dominique Kyle as it's first president.
The Youth Health Ministry provides first aid under the direction of a supervisor during 2nd and 5th Sunday morning services. It's members are between the ages of nine and seventeen. Before serving, all members must: (1) be Christian; (2) Learn Basic First Aid Skills, and (3) Know Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
New members are welcomed!
The Youth Health Ministry meets the Tuesday after each first Sunday at 6:00 PM in the lower Level of the church.
